This level was a project that I started in my game art 3 class where I wanted to make a super immersive level that is dark, depressing, and can leave an uneasy feeling inside you. Everything was modeled in Blender and textured in Substance Painter or Photoshop.
Things I learned:
- This one the first character model I created
- I learned a ton about Blender like using modifiers, and all the different tools Blender has to offer
- I used Photoshop to make the lava texture and the mountains texture, also to make a 6 sided skybox
- I designed and implemented particle effects in Unity to make a spiraling cloud effect in the sky
- Worked with lighting to add to the more creep aesthetic
Things I am changing:
- The buildings/sculptures: The original idea was for this to be a city in Hell which I do not think I captured entirely so I want to go back and make the buildings more accurate and really make it more like a city
- Edit the lighting: The lighting really added to the creepiness and editing it to add some strobe effects, and more lighting overall can really capture the feel I want for this level
- Add some stuff to interact with: Right now it is just a walking simulator so adding some small objectives or a small narrative (why I am here, why this place is important, why it exists) can really add to the immersion that I want the player to experience
- Edit all the textures and skybox: I don't think the textures are my best work and I know I can make them better. As well as the skybox it was my first attempt at creating a skybox and did not give it the time it deserved
- Create some new areas to explore: Making it more city like will help me achieve this I am mapping out a few different sections including a park and a sacrificing pit
